Tiffany Cromwell finishes top 10 in Montreal World Cup

Montreal, Quebec in Canada was the host of the 12th Montreal World Cup raced this weekend with a world class field that took to the start line. The women completed 11 laps of a 10km circuit that started and finished on Park avenue, but the defining part of the circuits was the 2km ascent up Mont Royal that shook up the peloton on a number of laps, it really was a race of attrition.
Team Colavita Sutter Homes rode very strongly all day, Emma Pooley of Team Cervelo attacked from the gun and put in an impressive ride to stay away all day and take out the win. Andrea Dvorak was in the early break trying to get Emma back and was off the front for a number of laps. Lap 5 was the first of the tough laps up the climb where the selection was made and both Tiffany and Cath Cheatley of Colavita made the selection, it came back together a number of times, each time with fewer riders. Tiffany rode smartly and positioned herself well all day, with two laps to go the selection really stuck as it was on up the climb and a selection of 10 riders were the race. Tiffany threw in a couple of attacks to try her luck but nothing was successful, then the final lap it wasn't too aggressive up the climb and the 10 pretty much stayed together/regrouped after the climb and it was going to be a small bunch kick for 2nd. Tiffany and Cath looked after each other and gave it their all with a couple of the riders from the selection dropping off it was a group of 6 who were sprinting for the line. Emma Johansen (Sweden National Team) took the bunch kick for 2nd with Trixi Worrack (Equipe Nurnberg) rounding out the podium. Cath finished 6th with Tiffany in 7th. In the bunch sprint for the second group Tina Pic showed her form taking that out to take 12th, and Heather Logan in 20th.
Colavita were definetly one of the strongest teams on the day, really showing their stength against the world class field. Now Tiffany and the girls will have a rest day before they take part in the 4 day Grand Tour of Montreal starting on Monday.
